Apple @ Work: 1Password 8 brings MDM support for IT administrators deploying a password manager across their organization

Apple @ Work is brought to you by Addigy, the ONLY real-time Apple device management platform that combines MDM with live agent capabilities to manage and secure your Apple ecosystem — regardless of your Mac-spertise. Visit addigy.com/9to5Mac for a free 14-day trial to see how Addigy helps you manage your Apple devices in real-time.

Much of Apple’s market share growth in the enterprise can be attributed to the fantastic hardware and software products it releases annually. However, another major reason why Apple has been able to gain traction in the enterprise is because of its commitment to empowering IT professionals to be successful in managing their fleets. If the IT team cannot effectively secure, deploy, or manage their fleet, then it doesn’t matter how good the devices are or if end users love them. The IT department’s mandate requires devices to fit into their ecosystem. The companies behind apps that want to be used in the enterprise know they’ll have an easier time reaching the large install base at organizations using Apple products if they can fit right into the existing management ecosystem. Recently, 1Password added MDM support to 1Password 8 on the Mac, and I want to look at why it’s a critical upgrade.

The latest update on the state of affairs comes from the New York Times. The paper says that negotiations are now likely to drag into next year. Despite some earlier reports claiming the opposite, Apple is yet to finalize a deal, and Google (YouTube) has emerged as a strong contender.

While Project Titan remains an R&D project, Apple says the first cars that will work with next-gen CarPlay won’t be announced until the end of 2023. There’s a high chance that drivers will have to wait until 2024 or 2025 to get behind the wheel of next generation CarPlay.

iOS 16 does include a few updates to CarPlay, however, and these features are available to everyone with the software update.

Review: AirPods Max are as important for music to me now as the iPod was [U: November 2022]

Update November 21, 2022: I’m re-upping my review from August 2021 while AirPods Max are on sale for $450 on and Best Buy.

While I’m here, I’ll add that AirPods Max are still a great purchase in November 2022. They’re that good and the only rumored change has been new colors, but we no longer expect that to happen this year. I recommend AirPods Max at $549, and the price is even more palatable for $100 less.

AirPods Max weren’t an instant purchase for me when they showed up online last December, but I talked myself into giving them a shot when they showed up in stores a week later. Eight months later, I can’t stop recommending them to anyone who can stomach the $549 price tag (or find a deal).

My validation for the purchase was heavily weighted by my role as a writer and podcast host for 9to5Mac, yet it was my appreciation for music that convinced me to close my eyes and click the buy button.
